My journey

How my life gave rise to Youthaging.

The beginning

A voice, and a trust

I sang in my school choir from elementary school through twelfth grade. In my twenties and thirties I sang in New York City, lead and background in bands, and performed at the Apollo three times. I was offered a recording contract that never materialized.

Somewhere along the way came the words that have steadied my life ever since. As I lived it, they came from my spirit guide, Joy, who appeared to me in white light during an astral experience. Her words became my guiding principle:

“You will know everything you need to know when you need to know it.”

Stepping back

Letting the dream change shape

Around 42, I stepped back from pursuing singing. The music didn't leave me. It changed form. Today I write songs for the joy of it, because something in me is alive and wants to be expressed, even when I don't yet know where it's going.

2021

Naming Youthaging

I founded Youthaging in 2021, while doing my best to figure out how to bring my ideas of mind, body and soul together.

I had noticed something: while I was aging, I was not becoming less alive. I was still writing, creating, learning, questioning and beginning again. My years had given me something my younger self could not have had: the experience of having lived. Vitality and wisdom weren't opposites. They were meeting in me.

The books

Writing down what I was learning

Trust Is the New Hustle: From Grind to Guidance asks what happens when we stop forcing. You'll Know What You Need, When You Need It carries Joy's words as its title, and explores trusting the knowing as it arrives.

The next question

And then INHABIT

Eventually another question emerged: what happens when you know what is true, but you still aren't living from what you know?

That question became INHABIT, the twelve-week journey where the philosophy becomes lived practice.

Now

Still becoming

I'm in my sixties, and I'm writing, recording, building INHABIT, and preparing to sing in my own voice again. I don't have the whole map. I've learned I don't need it. I'll know what I need to know when I need to know it.

Youthaging is the philosophy. INHABIT is where we put it into practice.
